Today, I'll share some exciting insights on how to use the Zapier plugin within ChatGPT to blend generative AI with existing growth motions in your business.
If you’ve been living off the grid over the past few years and then randomly subscribed to this newsletter, here’s a (very) brief primer…
ChatGPT, powered by OpenAI, is an AI large language model (LLM) capable of generating human-like text. It can draft emails, write articles, answer queries, and WAY more.
If that wasn’t cool enough, with the help of Zapier, you can now integrate ChatGPT into your existing workplace automation workflows and make it your ultimate virtual assistant.
Here's a quick guide to set it up:
First, create an account on Zapier (if you don't already have one).
Once you’re in your Zapier dashboard, click on 'My Apps' option on the left nav bar.
Search for and select the 'ChatGPT' app.
IF you don’t already have an OpenAI account (unlikely because you’re reading this newsletter), click here to go create one. If you’d like to follow along with this tutorial, get the $20/mo upgrade to unlock GPT-4, which enables plugins and is profoundly better than GPT-3.5 anyway.
Go back to Zapier, press the Connect button (which launches a popup).
Grab the necessary API connect your OpenAI account. To do this, go to platform.openai.com and click on “API”.
Click on your name on the top right, and select View API keys.
Grab your “Secret Key” and paste it into the Zapier popup that you have in a separate window. (You don’t need to paste in the Org ID unless your account is managing multiple organizations.)
Back in Zapier, you’ll see the following:
This means your Zapier account is connected to ChatGPT, BUT it doesn’t necessarily mean your ChatGPT account is connected to Zapier.
To make this happen, head back over to ChatGPT, start a new chat, and select GPT-4 at the top to bring up this dropdown:
Click on Plugins, and search for Zapier (which you may have to find in their plugin store if you don’t see it.)
Once you've set it up, prompt ChatGPT to ask it to break down its capabilities for you.
You’ve now armed yourself with a pretty powerful configuration, and what happens next can get pretty specific to your business.
For example, here’s an AI-enabled automation I want for my growth coaching company that I’ve asked ChatGPT to walk me through:
Give GPT-4 an outline of every step in your business, ask it to map out your Zaps for you to automate a ton of that process, and try not to allow your face to melt.
→ Today's action steps: Install the ChatGPT Zapier Plugin. Share the way your business’s operations currently work with ChatGPT-4, and tell it to outline 2-3 ways to utilize it for your specific business.
